Description

This is a unique opportunity to own the rarest and most sought after billiard table ever made – the original billiard table that was manufactured by John Thurston and installed in Buckingham Palace in 1842, for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The table is currently undergoing full restoration, but is of unbelievable quality, manufactured in solid English Oak with unbelievably figured Cuban mahogany veneers.

We have full provenance for the well documented table, which retains its makers plate fitted for the Earl’s Court Exhibition in 1897, where it was displayed alongside the more modern upgraded table that replaced it. We know who purchased the table subsequently from Thurstons, as well as when they fitted a a slightly thicker 1 1/2″ slate bed as an improvement on the thin original slate bed.

The table will be completely stripped to the bare wood and re-polished, the cushion blocks and rubbers will be replaced with Hainsworth Northern Rubber, the pockets will have new bag nets & leathers and the bed and cushions will be covered in West of England 6811 tournament cloth. The table will be restored to its former glory and appear as it did when it was first installed to Buckingham Palace nearly two centuries ago.

Shown is the fantastic timbers of the table stripped and ready for re-polishing, as well as a photo of the Thurston ledger entry (no.11618) for when the new Slates were fitted c.1910.

The price includes delivery & installation and every accessory, including a period mahogany Thurston Scoreboard & cue stand.
