Description

This is a rare and fantastic example of a ‘Sheraton’ design no.32 full size 12′ x 6′ billiard/snooker table manufactured by Thurston & Co of Leicester Square, London C.1902. The table is probably one of the finest examples of Thurston’s quality and craftsmanship available today, 120 years after its construction. The table is made of solid mahogany, with flame Cuban mahogany veneers and brilliant satinwood detailing on the frame and cushions. The legs are of a simple square tapered design, but no expense was spared producing this superb table. In addition, the cushions were upgraded c.1920 by Burroughes & Watts who fitted steel block cushions to the table – the last major innovation on a billiard table. This, in addition to the 2″ thick Welsh slate bed, means the ball response on the table is second to none. Also included in the sale is the accompanying billiard/lifepool scoring cabinet with the matching veneers and inlays, ball storage, mirror and drinks cabinet – a work of art by itself! We have the original bill of sale from the Thurston ledger which allows us to accurately date the table, as well as the original catalogue etchings of the table and scoring cabinet to add to the provenance. Finally, attached is a photo of Thurston’s Leicester Square showroom dated 3/6/1903 proudly displaying a Sheraton table and scoring cabinet.

This table comes with new cushion rubbers, the finest West of England 6811 wool cloth, hand stitched leathers and cotton bag nets.
