Description

A stunning Victorian English oak 12ft snooker/billiard table by George Wright & Co of Westminster Bridge Road, London C.1894. The table stands on 8 turned and fluted legs, with a series of carved scrolls and faces adorning the under frame. The ‘patent Excelsior’ cushions are solid throughout to ensure a good reaction, the bolts holes featuring brass inserts again being concealed with decorative carved panels, inlaid with the original ivory makers plate. The frame is English oak throughout so boasts a gorgeous honey grain, and it supports a 2″ thick bolted welsh slate bed. At the Chicago Exhibition of 1893  George Wright & Co won two gold medals for the tables they exhibited . From Sporting Life 11th November 1893 – “George Wright & Co. have been awarded two gold medals at the Chicago Exhibition. One for a handsomely carved oak table, fitted with their patent low Excelsior cushions, and patent automatic pocket. Priced at 1000 guineas”.

This table will be fully refurbished and will include: complete restoration of the woodwork, new ‘Hainsworth Northern’ cushion rubbers, the finest West of England 6811 wool cloth, hand stitched leathers, cotton bag nets, a full array of accessories and mainland ground floor delivery & installation included in the price.
